The competition is structured into two independent regional rounds. Nine Austin high schools compete in an Austin Round, while Dallas-area high schools compete in a separate Dallas Round. Each region plays its own slate of matches to determine standings. At the conclusion of regional play, the top two teams from Austin and the top two teams from Dallas advance to the semifinals. The bracket is deliberately set to ensure cross-region matchups: Austin vs Dallas in both semifinals. This format guarantees that every finalist has proven themselves not just regionally, but against the strongest competition from the other metro—turning the playoffs into a true Austin–Dallas showdown rather than a regional rematch.
